FOREWORD
The renewed interest and the euphoria in ICT today might have been borne out of the fact that Nigeria does not want to lag in the global race that basking or being controlled by the upsurge of the ICT revolution in all aspects of life including Education. Many countries around the world have introduced Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) into schools via different courses of action. Their use is also underlined by the Organization for Economic Corporation and Development (OECD) (2001) as a necessity for improving the quality of teaching and learning. Technologies such as multimedia are seen to have special significance for teacher education because of the growing expectation that teachers must be technologically literate to provide relevant instruction in schools.
The Social Studies Education component of this book focused on the concept of multimedia, the element of multimedia resources, and the importance of multimedia resources in Social Studies instructional delivery, training and Staff Development.
To achieve the above objectives, the author of this book has discussed the application of multimedia resources in the classroom, Electronic Information Resources in Social Studies teaching. Information and Communication Technology in Social Studies Education and Models of Blended Learning in Teaching Social Studies.
After a critical review of the contents of this book, I do not doubt that beneficiaries will find good teaching material that will expose them classroom on how to access multimedia resources for effective and efficient teaching and learning of Social Studies Education in Nigerian schools.
Therefore, I recommend this textbook for students, teachers, researchers, private, and public administrators and other relevant stakeholders in the Education industry who are interested in teaching in the 21st Century.
